Κρατηθείτε! Με πρόσχημα την προστασία των ανηλίκων έρχονται πολλά Οργουελιανά μέτρα, μεταξύ αυτών η μόνιμη παρακολούθηση των επικοινωνιών αλλά ακόμα και ο έλεγχος για το τι λειτουργικό/λογισμικό χρησιμοποιούμε.

Όσο αποδεχόμαστε, χάρη στην «ευκολία», το να πετάμε την ελευθερία μας στα σκουπίδια, τόσο κράτος και εταιρείες θα αξιοποιούν την τεχνολογία, πέρα από την αποχαύνωση και, για την μαζική μας παρακολούθηση και επομένως για τον έλεγχό μας. Και αυτό, πολύ σύντομα θα είναι μη αναστρέψιμο...

This year, from what I watched online, a few speakers tried to bring politics back into the room. They talked about things like technological sovereignty and the war. After years of carefully avoiding politics, that shift is genuinely welcome.

But the real question is: who are you talking to, and what do you think it will achieve?

If your strategy is to appeal to the EU, or to the supposedly “good intentions” of big corporations, then you’re not fixing the movement’s confusion - you’re reinforcing it.

Because in Brussels and in C-suite offices, the only constant is money and power. And that’s why they will never seriously confront Big Tech, or the US state that protects it. The whole “we just need better policy” or “we can partner our way out of this” story collapses the moment it runs into actual interests.

And the irony is impossible to miss: FOSDEM itself takes sponsorship money from the very companies shaping the problem - including Google, and IBM (via Red Hat). Whatever you think of sponsorship in general, it’s hard to square that with any serious claim of challenging US tech hegemony.

Technological radicalism didn’t come from boardrooms or polished conference stages. It came from communities: from messy, stubborn, principled people building things together with #FreeSoftware and from the hacker ethic, with its insistence on autonomy, curiosity, and refusal to ask permission.

If we want to keep the spirit of dissent - and the possibility of genuinely free creation - alive, we have to stop chasing legitimacy from institutions that will never be on our side. We have to rebuild from the roots: our communities, our practices, and our politics.

Here we go again. As a gentle reminder, your AI assistant is not your friend, it’s not your financial adviser and it’s certainly not your doctor or your therapist. It’s someone else’s computer, stacked in a data center, sucking up energy and water.

It’s not just ChatGPT and Gemini. These extensions don’t play favorites. Using any AI assistant in your browser is a risk, including “Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Grok (xAI) and Meta AI.”

I feel very good about the fact that I now have two different projects that I started that both created billion-dollar companies. ... I mean, clearly they people built billion-dollar companies on top of both of my big projects. And and some people ask me, "Doesn't that make you feel bad?" And I'm like, "No, you're not getting it. That makes me feel really good because that means that what I did was worthwhile and meaningful, right?

• Τα κατασκοπευτικά προγράμματα εγκαθίστανται σε οποιαδήποτε συσκευή χωρίς καν πατήσεις κάποιο σύνδεσμο (π.χ. ακόμα και «σκρολάροντας» μια σελίδα)

• Τα κράτη είναι οι μεγαλύτεροι πελάτες της συγκεκριμένης εταιρείας

• Δεν υπάρχει εμπορικό κινητό τηλέφωνο που να μην είναι ευάλωτο σε επιθέσεις. Οι επιθέσεις γίνονται σε επίπεδο baseband, πιο κεντρικό ακόμα και από το λειτουργικό σύστημα, οπότε αμφιβάλω αν ακόμα και το @GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social τα προστατεύει (αν και σίγουρα βάζει σημαντικά εμπόδια).

• Όλες οι επικοινωνίες με κινητά τηλέφωνα (ή με συσκευές που έχουν 2G/4G/5G+) πρέπει να θεωρούνται ανιχνεύσιμες. Το μέσο, όπως η πλατφόρμα chat (ακόμα και xmpp/signal κτλ) ή το πρωτόκολλο (tor, vpn) είναι αδιάφορο, όλα καταγράφονται από screenshots, video ή/και ηχογράφηση.

• Καμία φυσική επικοινωνία ή δραστηριότητα δεν πρέπει να θεωρείται ανώνυμη αν υπάρχει κινητή συσκευή στον χώρο που αυτή πραγματοποιείται. Το μικρόφωνο και η κάμερα μπορεί να καταγράφει ακόμα και offline και να αποστέλλει στον επιτιθέμενο ότι έχει υποκλαπεί μόλις συνδέεται.

• Χρειάζεται πραγματικά να αρχίσει η συζήτηση για το hardware και τους μικρουπολογιστές μέσα στις συσκευές μας.

• Οποιοσδήποτε υπάλληλος της (ιδιωτικής) εταιρείας (ή και πελάτης;) μπορεί να παρακολουθεί live όλους τους «στόχους», ακόμα και αφού το κακόβουλο λογισμικό πουληθεί σε ιδιώτες ή κρατικές υπηρεσίες.
