“The #prisoners are detained in a sort of cages, all blindfolded and handcuffed,” the source said. “If someone speaks or moves, they are immediately silenced or they are forced to stand with their hands raised above their head and handcuffed for up to one hour.
“If they are unable to keep their hands raised, the soldiers attach the handcuffs to the bars of the cage. Many of the detainees had infected wounds that were not being properly treated.”
He added: “The floor is very dirty, and it smells so bad that we were forced to wear face masks. You could hear sometimes the sound of beating and them screaming, and [a] banging sound like against the metal wall.”
The whistleblower said prisoners were given one cucumber, a few slices of bread and a cup of cheese, and that some of them were visibly malnourished.

Addameer, a Palestinian human rights organization, estimates that 54 Palestinians — the majority of them from Gaza — have died in Israeli prisons since October “due to torture, inhumane detention conditions, systematic abuse, and deliberate attacks.”
One man, identified as Zaanin, said he was denied access to the bathroom and medical treatment and deprived of sleep. Another man told the news agency that his “hands were injured from electric torture” and that he witnessed “more than 30 prisoners with amputated legs, some with both legs missing, and some with both eyes missing.”

“The total number of arrests stands at 10,000 in the West Bank and Jerusalem,” the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs, the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), and Addameer Association for Human Rights said in a joint brief released Monday.

Since 7 October, 345 women and 700 children have been imprisoned in the occupied #WestBank and #Jerusalem, according to the brief.

It adds that 94 #journalists have been detained, 53 of who are still in custody.

“More than 8,322 orders of administrative detention have been issued since 7 October, ranging between new orders and renewals, including orders against children and women,” the brief goes on to say.
“The data does not include detention cases of #Gaza, due to the occupation’s refusal to give any information and the continuation of practicing the crime of enforced disappearance against them. The occupation forces arrested about 4,000 citizens from Gaza.
At least 22 #Palestinians have died in Israeli custody, according to official numbers.
The head of Israel’s Shin Bet security service, Ronen Bar, warned in a letter to #Netanyahu and Itamar Ben Gvir in late June that 21,000 Palestinians are imprisoned in jails across #israel.

"#Israeli Prison Service personnel in the security wing of Megiddo Prison handcuffed and humiliated detainees on Friday morning, despite no unusual incident occurring in the prison.

"Photos and videos obtained by Haaretz show dozens of detainees lying on their stomachs while handcuffed, some without clothes, as a guard dog barks over their heads. The Prison Service described this as a 'routine exercise.'

"In numerous cases, detainees and prisoners in Megiddo prison have reported being subject to violence and severe abuse by prison guards, including kicking, punching, blows to the testicles and other forms of humiliation. Since the outbreak of the war, Palestinian detainees in the security wing, as well as those with Israeli citizenship, reported being beaten by guards and being forced to sing songs, often while in handcuffs, as a form of humiliation.

Israel has opened an underground #prison for detainees from #Hamas and #Hezbollah groups where they are denied access to sunlight, according to Israeli media cited by the Anadolu news agency.

According to the Israeli public broadcaster KAN, the facility, located in central #Israel, is designed to house “the most dangerous individuals” from Hamas’s elite forces and Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit.

“This is their natural place, underground,” far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who oversees the police, reportedly told KAN.

The broadcaster said some 75 detainees were currently being held at the underground prison.

“Even the small window in the ward has been sealed off for the detainees,” it added.
Describing the conditions in the underground prison as harsh, KAN said detainees there are shackled and confined to their cells for 23 hours a day.

“They are allowed only one brief opportunity per day to step into a small, enclosed yard,” it added. “Even this small yard is completely closed and the sunlight can’t reach it, and detainees are allowed to go out into it once a day.”
