NEW | British Universities Paid Intelligence Firm to Monitor Pro-Palestine Students and Academics

An investigation by Al Jazeera and Liberty Investigates reveals that at least 12 British universities paid Horus Security Consultancy, run by former military intelligence officials, to monitor pro-Palestine students and academics, scanning social media activity, compiling intelligence briefings, and conducting background checks under the pretext of security.

The firm received over £440,000 since 2022, producing reports that tracked campus protests, flagged student posts, and provided “encampment updates” on pro-Gaza activism.

Documents show that universities requested alerts specifically related to pro-Palestine groups, while a Palestinian academic invited to speak was subjected to a secret “counter-terror” threat assessment.

Students and staff were monitored without their knowledge, with testimonies revealing that social media posts were collected and shared with university security teams.
