Breaking | U.S. approves $8.6 billion in military sales to Israel and regional allies

The United States has approved more than $8.6 billion in military sales to Middle East allies, including Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, according to the U.S. State Department.

The packages include missile defense systems, precision-guided weapons, and advanced military command systems, with major U.S. defense companies involved in the deals.

The approvals come amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and weeks after a fragile ceasefire.

Data published by the European Union showed that France issued arms export licences worth 362 million euros (424 million dollars) in 2024, followed by Germany (198 million dollars) and Greece (133 million dollars).

According to EUobserver, the majority of French licences in 2024 covered spare parts and military software, but they also included 122 million euros (143 million dollars) in ammunition and 18 million euros (21 million dollars) in bombs, torpedoes, missiles, and other explosive devices.

France was one of the main supporters of Israel in 2024, despite Israel announcing in March that it would stop purchasing weapons from France due to what it described as a hostile stance from Paris, as well as its recent refusal to include France in Israeli negotiations with Lebanon.

Two cargo ships carrying 6,500 tons of military equipment from the United States, including thousands of munitions and light armored utility vehicles, arrived in Israel in the past day, the Defense Ministry announces.

The ships, which docked at the Haifa and Ashdod ports, were carrying "thousands of air munitions, ground munitions, military trucks, JLTV combat mobility vehicles, and additional equipment," the ministry says.
