Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network has strongly condemned the Greek government’s detention and planned deportation of Mohammed Khatib, its European coordinator.
Khatib was detained at Heraklion airport while traveling to Crete for a Palestine solidarity event and was declared inadmissible on “national security” grounds.
Samidoun said the move targets the Palestinian community and solidarity movement in Greece and demanded his immediate release.
Stuart Casey Maslen, head of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, reported that as of October 2023, Gaza's population had fallen by more than 10%, suggesting roughly 200,000 deaths.
The academy's War Watch report highlights the dire situation caused by relentless Israeli attacks, with injured civilians needing urgent evacuation and the population requiring more food, water, shelter, and medical aid. At least 70,000 civilians were confirmed killed since October 2023, with the actual toll expected to be higher due to bodies trapped under rubble.
In response to Israeli demands, Greek authorities arrested Mohammed Al-Khatib, coordinator of the “Samidoun” network in Europe, while he was on Crete en route to participate in a seminar on the conditions of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
