The Palestinian Prisoner's Society warned today of a dangerous outbreak of scabies spreading through sections of several major Israeli prisons, based on dozens of lawyer visits conducted during April and May 2026 that revealed shocking levels of deliberate medical neglect inside the notorious Israeli detention camps.

According to the organization, testimonies gathered by lawyers confirmed that Palestinian prisoners are suffering from a widespread spread of the disease, adding that prisons have effectively become contaminated environments where diseases and epidemics are being used as tools of systematic torture against detainees.

Thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have suffered amputations and life-altering injuries during the ongoing Israeli genocide, with severe shortages of medical supplies leaving many without proper treatment or rehabilitation.

Among them is Abdelsalam Al-Bardawil, who lost his left arm in an Israeli strike on his home in Gaza City that also killed his mother and brother.

Doctors were forced to amputate his hand, and later he received a heavy and uncomfortable prosthetic limb that he could not use.

Repeated attempts to obtain a proper upper-limb prosthetic failed because none were available in the Gaza Strip. He says the loss has left his life “completely on hold.”
